Review - Rowdy Beaver Restaurant and Tavern - Wichita, KS
Last night, my girlfriend and I had dinner at the Rowdy Beaver in Wichita, KS. Now prior to our visit I had heard mixed reviews about the place and really wasn't sure what to expect.
How was the service? The service was really good. We were seated as soon as we walked in. Our waitress, Diamond, was very nice and efficient. She kept our drinks refilled and checked in on us frequently. Our appetizer and salads arrived quickly.
Now the food on the other hand made this visit rather disappointing. The queso we got with our chips tasted like the bowling alley nacho cheese sauce with some additional seasoning in it. The cheese sauce quickly became chunky as it cooled at the table. It was not what I expect to see when I order "Chips and Queso." The salads were brought to us quickly. I had made a comment to my girlfriend that they tasted like they had been sitting in a cooler, which is when she pointed out that she was able to see them pull the salads out of a cooler. I had ordered the chicken fried chicken with fries. My fries were the homemade kind that had gotten burned and soggy from not being properly fried. The chicken fried chicken had so much country gravy on it. I probably had a half a cup of excess gravy that I scraped off of the top of my chicken. My girlfriend had the chicken fried steak with a baked potato. The potato was overcooked and the steak was soggy.
Considering that the Rowdy Beaver is a tavern, the food probably caters more toward someone who has consumed enough alcohol to not care what the food tastes like. The food was disappointing enough that I will not go back.
